We'd be suspicious too.
Ask away.

A free website with no strings attached sounds too good to be true. We get it. Here's everything you'd want to know before applying.

The big question
What's the catch?

There isn't one — but we understand why you'd ask.

Here's exactly how it works: we build 20 free websites per month. A small number of those businesses go on to take our optional managed hosting at £49/month. That revenue is how we cover our costs and keep the service running.

If you never take hosting, your site is still free. We'll deliver your files, wish you well, and that's that. No follow-up sales calls, no passive-aggressive emails, no "your trial has ended" message three months later.

The hosting option exists for businesses that genuinely want us to manage things for them. It's not a trap — it's a service some people find useful.

How are you making money if the website is free?

Honestly: some businesses take our optional managed hosting at £49/month. That's it. We don't sell your data, we don't run ads, we don't add affiliate links to your site, and we don't have a hidden premium tier.

We accept 20 businesses per month. If even a handful choose hosting, that covers our costs. It's a simple model, and we prefer simple.

The free website
What does the website actually include?

Every free website includes:

3 pages: Home, About, and Contact — the essentials for any local or small business.

Mobile responsive design: Looks correct on phones, tablets, and desktop.

Contact form: A working enquiry form so visitors can reach you directly.

Google Maps embed: Your location on the Contact page — useful for businesses with a physical address.

Social media links: Facebook, Instagram, or wherever your customers follow you.

Fast, hand-coded HTML: No bloated builders. Clean code that loads quickly and performs well on Google.

Domain-ready: Point your domain at the files and it goes live. We'll guide you through it.

How long does it take?

We aim to deliver your completed website within 3–5 working days of confirming your application. Sometimes faster, occasionally a day or two longer during busy periods.

We'll confirm your spot within one working day of receiving your application and keep you updated throughout.

Can I use my own domain name?

Yes. We deliver the website files to your Google Drive. You host them wherever you like and point your domain at them.

If you don't have a domain yet, we can advise on getting one — a .co.uk typically costs around £10–£15 per year.

If you take our optional managed hosting, we handle the domain connection for you as part of the service.

Who hosts the site if I don't take your hosting?

That's entirely up to you. Since we deliver raw HTML, CSS, and JS files, they can be hosted almost anywhere. Free options like Netlify and Cloudflare Pages work well for static sites and are straightforward to use.

If the technical side feels daunting, our managed hosting at £49/month removes that entirely — we handle it all for you.

What if I want changes after delivery?

Since you receive the source files, you (or any developer) can edit them directly. The code is clean and readable, accessible even to someone with basic HTML knowledge.

If you're on our managed hosting plan, minor content updates are included — just email us and we'll make the change.

We don't offer ongoing free revisions to one-off free sites, but we'll always respond to a question and point you in the right direction.

Will it be a template or something built for my business?

Built for your business. We don't use website templates or drag-and-drop builders. Every site is designed and coded from scratch based on what you tell us in your application.

The scope is realistic — 3 focused pages, done well — but within those pages, every word, colour, and layout decision is made with your specific business in mind.

Eligibility
How do I prove I'm a legitimate UK business?

Either of these works:

Companies House number: If your business is registered with Companies House (limited company or LLP), provide your company number and we'll verify it.

Google Business Profile URL: If you're a sole trader or partnership, a verified Google Business Profile is fine. Share the link and we'll confirm it's yours.

If neither applies but you're a genuine UK business, apply and explain your situation — we'll do our best to find a way to verify you.

I already have a website. Can I still apply?

Priority goes to businesses with no website at all. If yours is working and reasonably modern, we'd ask you to let this spot go to someone who needs it more.

However, if your existing website is genuinely broken, embarrassingly outdated, or was built on a platform that's shutting down — apply and tell us. We consider each case on its merits.

What types of businesses do you build for?

Any legitimate UK business. We've built for tradespeople, cafés, therapists, accountants, dog groomers, photographers, tutors, and many more.

We don't build for businesses that promote anything illegal or harmful. Other than that, if you run a real business and you're UK-based, we want to help.

What happens if I'm not accepted?

We'll email you with an honest reason — whether that's because we're full this month, eligibility criteria, or something else. We won't ghost you.

If it's a timing issue, we'll invite you to reapply next month. If there's something you can do to strengthen your application, we'll tell you what it is.

Optional managed hosting
What does the £49/month hosting include?

Hosting on fast UK-based servers, with your domain connected and pointing correctly.

SSL certificate (the padlock in the address bar) — included and auto-renewed.

Content updates — need to change your opening hours, update a phone number, add a new service? Email us and it's done, usually the same day.

Uptime monitoring — we'll know if your site goes down before you do, and we'll fix it.

Cancel any time — no contract, no notice period, no exit fee. Your files always come with you.

If I cancel hosting, do I lose my website?

No. This is the fundamental difference between us and everyone else.

You already own the files — they were delivered to your Google Drive when your site was built. Cancelling hosting just means we stop managing the live version. The files remain yours, permanently, unconditionally.

Can I sign up for hosting later, after receiving my free site?

Yes, no deadline. You might receive your files, try hosting it yourself, find it more complicated than expected, and come back to us six months later. That's completely fine.

Just email hello@ukbusinesssites.co.uk when you're ready and we'll get you set up.
